Enterprise spokesperson for the Regional Group Matt Shanahan says group TDs are to introduce a private members bill on Wednesday 8th December calling for a comprehensive national offshore wind energy policy.
The bill is seeking government commitments to an Atlantic Interconnector to be developed along with the creation of a new Offshore Renewable Development Authority tasked with driving a national plan to develop engineering expertise, commercial finance partnerships and license arrangements that can act to develop Ireland as a leading global clean energy provider.
Ireland has the potential to develop over 70,000 megawatts of offshore renewable energy providing export opportunity, state income, decarbonisation of our national economy and a ‘Just Transition’ for our coastal communities as well as helping secure the national asset that is our 220 million-acre offshore marine resource.
Bill is scheduled in Dail Debate Wednesday 8th December.
